I haven't been cataloging shit this last however long because, well, I just wasn't doing it, okay?? Hoping to resume back to a better cadence with this because writing my thoughts down on stuff is genuinely helpful for me.
Yo, whose tryna get a copy of Pete Hegseth's driver's license?
Though I try to refrain from being a silly consoomer, the Mudita Kompakt looks like it might be my next smartphone. Right now I'm still rocking the Google Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS, but updates for the software will stop next year. So with that, I'm between getting a Pixel 8 or this e-ink thing. Looking up prices for the Pixel 8 on the 'zon, it looks like it's quite cheaper than the Kompakt, and by next year it'll probably be even cheaper. Still, the Kompakt looks pretty dang cool. After fixing my phone addiction with a prescription of using a dumb phone for a year, I find my phone to be much less invasive than it used to be. Though I might've just replaced it with my computer mostly, that's a much better trade-off than what I used to be. Throughout 2016–2022 or so, I didn't even own a computer. The phone did just fine, but after realizing that it is just a stupid media-consumption device and nothing more, I found myself looking for a cleaner digital life. For the most part, I've found it thanks to some resourcefulness and a slight bump in maturity; but still, there's always room to improve.
Video from Black Luke Smith on Omarchy, a now "agentic" OS. Kenny's demo was interesting to see, and while it probably wouldn't be useful to some seasoned senior engineer, it seems like it would mostly be useful for other people in less tech-centric use cases—which is always a fun piece of irony to sift through. So far, the absolute best use case I've heard of for this kind of stuff is automating job hunting; second place would probably be shopping. Though there was this one guy back when OpenClaw was still a thing who would low-ball boomers on Zillow with an agent. Okay I change my mind—that's the best use case I've heard. Regarding Omarchy's pre-determined rice and keybindings, those seem like a nice extension of Lazyvim, but for the whole damn computer. That's pretty cool, but when I am using my computer, the only task I like to do with two hands is write. For everything else, I much prefer my super-duper-ultra-cool one-handed macros. Don't ask me what I'm doing with my other hand, though. (not that, jackass!)
Hey, here's an old paper from Kevin Kelly aptly titled Nerd Theology. Uh, based.
