I finally started that email client/RSS reader project here. As you can probably infer from the docs folder, this is so ever-lovingly-vibe-coded-to-shit because I am a writer and not a programmer. I have never written a single line of Rust in my life, but my contention is that these days, all you need to actually be a programmer is to understand architectures and let your digital code monkeys do all of the boring stuff. As humans, our best asset is our ideas, and not functions, or tool calls, or stupid tests or whatever else. It's been an interesting journey over the last week or so diving deep into stuff I have no idea about, and hopefully this project turns into something decent and doesn't get scrapped into the trash. The Unemployed Genius must keep working, otherwise I will simply die in a hole. I sure do love making sure my code monkeys don't go into a fit of psychosis, but it gets a little boring when you realize that a large contingent of people get paid six figures just to press "Enter" on their keyboards dozens of times a day.
There was an ancient time when you had to get hazed on StackOverflow if you wanted to actually build anything, but those days are firmly behind us. Nowadays all you need is a shitty idea, some time, and an IQ above room temperature. What lovely times we live in—but we just need to remind ourselves that all "knowledge work" has been a complete joke for the past 15 years, and that all we are really doing is playing fancy office politics. It's just another mask to put on in the Theater That Never Closes. I love dispelling illusions, but it makes one very quickly not-liked by people who don't remember which mask they put on this morning. Quite frankly, I don't give a shit. If people want to live in their dumb fantasy lands and call it reality, that's fine with me. I will put my middle finger up to the sky and say "Smite me now, asshole!"
Though the project has taken me away from writing, it's been a nice change of pace, I suppose.
